Speaking to CNBC, Marc Fabre, dubbed as "Dr Doom", said US President Donald Trump's protectionist rhetoric will be good for Asia, pushing the region's stock markets to outperform.
The renowned investor said Asia is now dominated by China, and Taiwan's and South Korea's exports to mainland China is far more important than that to the US. Trump's withdrawal from TPP and NAFTA will make Asia and other countries in the world, such as Mexico and European countries, think that the US is no longer a reliable trade partner, he added.
Fabre also expected Asian stock markets to benefit, with Hong Kong and Singapore markets potentially returning as much as 15% this year, including dividends.
