HSI Rises 156 pts; Oil Stocks Leap

The U.S bourses traded mixed last night (30 November) in which financial and oil stocks sent Dow Jones Industrial Average Index slightly higher. China November official manufacturing PMI was 51.7, higher than estimates. Hang Seng Index opened higher 158 pts and hiked up to 222 pts to peak at 23,012, breaching the level of 23,000. The benchmark index gained 156 pts or 0.7% to 22,946 at morning's close. Hang Seng China Enterprises Index rose 109 pts or 1.1% to 9,947. Half-day market turnover amounted to $43.02 billion.

HSBC HOLDINGS (00005.HK)  +0.400 (+0.612%)    Short selling $100.46M; Ratio 4.292%   and TENCENT (00700.HK)  -2.700 (-1.414%)    Short selling $151.94M; Ratio 3.515%   inched up 0.2% and 0.6%. CHINA UNICOM (00762.HK)  +0.200 (+2.105%)    Short selling $73.93M; Ratio 18.410%   said that the group did not receive the final approval for mixed ownership reform. Yet, the stock continued higher 2.9%. CHINA MOBILE (00941.HK)  -0.900 (-1.065%)    Short selling $36.61M; Ratio 2.702%   perked up 1.4%.

Hong Kong property stocks bucked the market and declined, with CK PROPERTY (01113.HK)  +0.950 (+1.827%)    Short selling $38.57M; Ratio 6.019%   , WHARF HOLDINGS (00004.HK)  -0.750 (-1.329%)    Short selling $22.56M; Ratio 10.544%   , SINO LAND (00083.HK)  +0.040 (+0.329%)    Short selling $9.72M; Ratio 15.954%   and LINK REIT (00823.HK)  +0.300 (+0.557%)    Short selling $75.01M; Ratio 13.638%   falling 1-3.4%, of which SINO LAND became the worst performer of blue chips. SANDS CHINA LTD (01928.HK)  -2.950 (-7.867%)    Short selling $722.14M; Ratio 19.827%   followed the market and jumped 1.3%.

The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) reached an agreement on production cut for the first time in eight years and the global oil output will reduce by 2% starting from January. Such news sent oil stocks higher, with CNOOC (00883.HK)  -0.020 (-0.195%)    Short selling $85.46M; Ratio 21.215%   escalated 6.3%, being the best performing blue chip. KUNLUN ENERGY (00135.HK)  -0.030 (-0.511%)    Short selling $12.19M; Ratio 26.181%   , PETROCHINA (00857.HK)  -0.070 (-1.270%)    Short selling $22.00M; Ratio 3.136%   and SINOPEC CORP (00386.HK)  -0.050 (-0.891%)    Short selling $28.41M; Ratio 7.460%   rallied 2.5-5.7%. CHINA OILFIELD (02883.HK)  +0.050 (+0.664%)    Short selling $17.24M; Ratio 14.432%   rocketed 6.5%, being the best performing HSCEI constituent.

Gold stocks broadly retreated since gold futures slid 1.4%. CHINAGOLDINTL (02099.HK)  +0.120 (+0.710%)   and ZHAOJIN MINING (01818.HK)  -0.170 (-2.398%)    Short selling $11.35M; Ratio 35.692%   faded 1.3% and 1.1%. SPDR GOLD TRUST (02840.HK)  -5.000 (-0.575%)   and VALUEGOLD ETF (03081.HK)  -0.200 (-0.703%)   slid 1.7% and 2%.
