The US government announced a series of measures aimed at preventing Chinese developers from improperly leveraging leading US AI models to build chatbots.

According to a memorandum from the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, the White House will promote broader information sharing among US-headquartered developers and further assist the industry in detecting unauthorized model extraction activities.

The measures are intended to address concerns raised by US companies including OpenAI, Anthropic and Google, which worry that outputs from their AI models could be improperly utilized by Chinese rivals such as DeepSeek, Moonshot AI and MINIMAX-W (00100.HK) to develop products at lower cost and with fewer safety guardrails.
