Wu Guogang, the inspector of the Electronic Information Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), said at the opening ceremony of the 14th Energy Storage International Conference and Expo (ESIE 2026) that the scale of the new energy storage industry is steadily growing, according to Chinese media. The MIIT will focus on work including the planning from a high starting point and top-level design, the organization of the formulation of the '15th Five-Year Plan' for new battery development, with an aim to anchor the cutting-edge fields of new energy storage, strengthen support for original and leading technological innovations, and guide & empower the industry towards continuous premiumization, intelligence and green development through planning. Meanwhile, the authority will enhance precise regulation of industry operations, dynamically track key operational indicators such as energy storage battery capacity, production and prices, and strengthen the implementation of mandatory national standards for energy storage batteries, accelerating the formulation of key standards such as product safety levels, performance grading and rapid testing.
