Assuming oil prices hike to USD120/ bbl, it could pose an acute threat to Asia's economic growth, Morgan Stanley said in its report. Analysts from the broker mentioned in the report that a continuous USD10 increase in oil prices/ bbl could negatively impact Asia's GDP growth by 20-30 bps. They underscored that if oil prices reach USD120/ bbl, Asia's spending on oil and gas could account for 6.3% of GDP. If conflicts persist and commodity prices remain elevated, the effectiveness of policy buffers may deteriorate, Morgan Stanley also warned. In such a scenario, central banks in the Philippines, Indonesia, India, and South Korea may need to raise interest rates by the end of 3Q or 4Q. AASTOCKS Financial News Website: www.aastocks.com |
