Wang Qiuping, spokesperson and director of the News and Publicity Department of the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR), stated that the Office of the State Council's Anti-Monopoly and Anti-Unfair Competition Committee announced at the beginning of the year that it would conduct an investigation and assessment of the market competition conditions in the food delivery service industry based on the Anti-Monopoly Law, Chinese media reported.

This is to address issues such as "competing on subsidies, wrestling on prices, and controlling traffic". The authorities are advancing the investigation and assessment work according to the established plan, Wang revealed.

In collaboration with member units of the State Council's Anti-Monopoly and Anti-Unfair Competition Committee, on-site investigations were conducted at relevant food delivery platforms to comprehensively collect information. Meetings with merchants were organized to facilitate exchanges with industry associations and platform operators.

Through face-to-face interviews, the concerns and demands of various stakeholders, including platform merchants, delivery riders, and consumers, were widely understood.

Next, the authorities will continue to use on-site inspections, interviews, discussions, and surveys to gain a deeper understanding of competition behaviors on food delivery platforms.
