Junyang Lin, the technical head of BABA-W (09988.HK)'s Qianwen large model, abruptly announced his resignation without explanation. Two other technical experts from the Qianwen large model team also left purportedly. In response, Alibaba CEO Eddie Wu stated in an internal email that the company has decided to approve Lin's resignation, and CTO Jingren Zhou will continue to lead the Tongyi Lab in advancing subsequent work. Wu disclosed that the group will establish a foundation model support group, coordinated by himself, Zhou, and Yu Fan, to support the construction of the foundation model with group resources. He underscored that the group will continue to adhere to the open-source model strategy while amplifying R&D investment in the AI field and stepping up efforts to attract outstanding talent. Alibaba has not changed its open-source strategy for Qianwen, nor has it set commercialization targets such as daily active users for the foundation model team, sources divulged. Lin's resignation is unrelated to these rumors. What's really happening is that as Qianwen evolves from a foundation model to being part of a group-wide strategy, the company believed it needs to recruit more top technical talent to enhance the talent density of the foundation model team. This process involved adjustments to Lin's scope of responsibilities, which he did not accept, leading to his resignation. AASTOCKS Financial News Website: www.aastocks.com |
