The escalation of the US-Iran war dampened global stock markets. The Hong Kong stock market opened higher but closed lower. The HSI closed down 291 points or 1.1% at 25,768. The HSCEI shed 93 points or 1.1% to close at 8,608. The HSTECH lost 112 points or 2.3% to close at 4,876. The total market turnover for the day was HKD370.545 billion.

Among gas utilities, KUNLUN ENERGY (00135.HK) added 1.7%. For oils, SINOPEC CORP (00386.HK) dived 2.7%; PETROCHINA (00857.HK) and CNOOC (00883.HK) spiked 5% and 3.2%, respectively. Oil equipment stock SHANDONG MOLONG (00568.HK) leapfrogged 26%, with a turnover of HKD11.28 billion. Oil service provider CHINA OILFIELD (02883.HK) swelled 2.9%, and tanker COSCO SHIP ENGY (01138.HK) jumped up 2%. The Baltic Dry Index drifted higher, with shippers OOIL (00316.HK) and COSCO SHIP HOLD (01919.HK) jumping up 2.9% and 5.2%, respectively.

Gold and silver stocks subsided, with SD GOLD (01787.HK), ZHAOJIN MINING (01818.HK), and ZIJIN MINING (02899.HK) sagging 5-6.3%. CHI SILVER GP (00815.HK), CHINAGOLDINTL (02099.HK), ZIJIN GOLD INTL (02259.HK), and LINGBAOGOLD-100 (03330.HK) tumbled 7.7-8.9%. Commodity stocks JIANGXI COPPER (00358.HK) and CMOC (03993.HK) cascaded 7.1% and 6.9%, respectively. MMG (01208.HK) cratered 9.3%. Lithium stocks TIANQI LITHIUM (09696.HK) and GANFENGLITHIUM (01772.HK) nosedived 8.1% and 10.9%, respectively. Jewelry retail stocks CHOW TAI FOOK (01929.HK) and LAOPU GOLD (06181.HK) slipped 4.8% and 5.5%, respectively.

In the tech sector, TENCENT (00700.HK), BABA-W (09988.HK), JD-SW (09618.HK), BIDU-SW (09888.HK), KUAISHOU-W (01024.HK), and BILIBILI-W (09626.HK) inched up 0.7-1.2%. NTES-S (09999.HK), which may be included in the Southbound Stock Connect with dual primary listing status, gained 1.4%. MEITUAN-W (03690.HK) fell off 2.3%.
