Multiple Shippers Suspend Middle East Booking Services; Some Impose Surcharges

Major global shipping companies are adjusting their sailing schedules in response to military strikes by the US and Israel on Iran, according to Bloomberg. Some shippers suspended booking services and are skipping certain port calls, meanwhile warning of transport delays and implementing surcharges. Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) announced on Sunday (1 March) an immediate suspension of all global cargo bookings to the Middle East region until further notice. Maersk announced yesterday (2 March) an immediate suspension of refrigerated and dangerous goods transport to and from the UAE, Oman, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia until further notice.
