The UK's Office for National Statistics announced last week that the country's unemployment rate rose to 5.2% in 4Q25, a five-year high since early 2021, worse than the market expectation of 5.1%.

In January, recruitment activities softened, with the number of vacancies dropping to a five-year low. Even worse, according to a Bloomberg report that cited online job search site Adzuna, graduate jobs plummeted by 19.1% to below the 10,000 mark, the first time since Adzuna began its tracking in April 2016.
