Toyota Joins PONY-W for Robotaxi Mass Production in Guangdong, Aiming to Foray Into Taxi Biz

Toyota Motor has recently announced a partnership with PONY-W (02026.HK) to commence the mass production of Robotaxis equipped with AI and sensors at a factory in Guangdong, according to Kyodo News. Its goal is to deploy around 1,000 Robotaxis in major cities within the year. As PONY-W has already begun operating Robotaxis in Beijing and Shanghai, Toyota also intends to establish a joint venture with PONY-W as an avenue to enter the autonomous taxi business, the report said. The report also mentioned that these Robotaxis will be based on Toyota's pure electric vehicle, bZ4X. Its auto-operation will rely on AI technology and sensors to avoid obstacles.
