A video commentary published in a column under Xinhua News Agency said that the recent investigation by the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) into a leading online travel platform suspected of abusing its dominant market position and engaging in monopolistic practices has drawn widespread public attention. The video commentary titled The Larger the Platform, the Greater the Responsibility to Follow Rules and Act with Accountability stated that, amid controversies ranging from allegations of forcing merchants to choose between platforms, to suspicions of unilaterally raising commissions and using technical means to interfere with merchant pricing, to the widely criticized big data discriminatory pricing and other practices, the platform's series of actions have long caused merchants and the public considerable distress. Last Wednesday, the SAMR initiated an investigation into TRIP.COM-S (09961.HK) for suspected abuse of its dominant market position in violation of the Anti-Monopoly Law of the People's Republic of China. TRIP.COM-S said that the Company will actively cooperate with the regulators, fully implement regulatory requirements, and collaborate with industry parties to build a sustainable market environment.
