Several former Fed chairs, Treasury secretaries and renowned economists signed a statement in support of Fed Chair Jerome Powell, who faces potential perjury charges from the Department of Justice (DOJ), according to media reports.

The statement, signed by former Fed Chairs Ben Bernanke and Alan Greenspan, former Treasury secretaries Janet Yellen and Henry Paulson, and more than a dozen economists, asserts that the criminal investigation against Powell is an unprecedented attempt to undermine the Fed's independence through prosecutorial attacks.
