The Japan Tourism Agency officially announced the arrangements for the second round of integrated resort applications, starting from May 6, 2027, with a six-month application window for local governments to apply for new development areas for integrated resort projects that include gambling elements, Japanese media reported. Regions such as Hokkaido and Nagasaki are expected to submit applications. Nagasaki was one of the two candidate regions in the previous round but was not selected over doubts on its financing plan and lack of experience in operating large integrated resort projects.
