ZTE (00763.HK) may pay the US government over USD1 billion or even as much as USD2 billion or more to settle allegations of overseas bribery that have persisted for years, Reuters reported, citing sources.

Sources disclosed that the US Department of Justice had already launched an investigation into ZTE this year, accusing it of violating the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, which prohibits payments or offers of valuable items to foreign officials for commercial gain, in South America and other regions.
