Li Liangbin, Chairman of GANFENGLITHIUM (01772.HK), said at the 10th International Summit on Power Battery Application held today (17th) that increased demand for lithium carbonate in 2H25 may raise the 2025 full-year global demand from 1.45 million tons to 1.55 million tons, according to a report by Cailian Press.

Meanwhile, the supply capacity of over 1.7 million tons will result in a surplus of around 200,000 tons, a reason behind this year's relatively sluggish prices.

In Li's estimate, lithium carbonate demand will grow by 30% in 2026 to 1.9 million tons, while supply capacity, after evaluation, should increase by about 250,000 tons, leading to a basic balance between supply and demand with room for price increases.

If next year's demand growth exceeds 30% or even reaches 40%, Li stressed that supply will not be able to balance in the short term, and prices may bust above RMB150,000 per ton or even RMB200,000 per ton.
