The Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) announced that in the past few hours, Fung-wong continued to adopt a northerly track, edging closer to the coast of Guangdong. There will be occasionally strong northerly winds offshore today, reaching gale force on high ground. However, due to terrain sheltering effect, the chance of having persistent strong winds generally over the territory is relatively low. The Standby Signal, No. 1 will remain in force during the day today. Fung-wong is expected to be closest to Hong Kong between later today to overnight, skirting more than 400 kilometres to the east of Hong Kong. It will then move towards the vicinity of Taiwan, departing from Hong Kong and weakening gradually. Unless Fung-wong adopts a track closer to the coast of Guangdong, the chance of issuing the Strong Wind Signal, No. 3 is relatively low. With Fung-wong departing, local weather will then be dominated by the northeast monsoon. Depending on the change in local wind conditions, the Observatory will then consider replacing the Standby Signal, No. 1 by the Strong Monsoon Signal, or cancelling all Tropical Cyclone Warning Signals.
