Zhang Ning, Senior China Economist at UBS, estimates that China's economic activity will generally remain resilient in 2026, and the downtrend in the real estate market will persist but narrow. Meanwhile, the consumer markets are expected to sustain moderate growth, with a slight slowdown in growth rate, while infrastructure and manufacturing investments will shift from a steep YoY decline in 2H25 to moderate recovery.

Zhang also predicts that China's CPI growth rate may rebound to 0.4% in 2026, and the drop in PPI may narrow. By 2027, real estate activities are likely to stabilize, which, coupled with recovered export growth and stable consumer confidence, may drive GDP growth back to 4.6%. At the same time, inflation is projected to continue rising in 2027, with a slight strengthening of the RMB exchange rate.
