<H Shrs>HSI Closes Up 550 Pts as Chip & Commodities Stocks Gain; SMIC Rallies 7%

Hong Kong stocks thrived today. The HSI climbed 550 points or 2.1% to close at 26,485. The HSCEI jumped up 192 points or 2.1% to finish at 9,355. The HSTECH lifted 158 points or 2.7% to settle at 5,944. Total market turnover for the day amounted to $234.653 billion. Foreign media reported that mainland China banned data centers receiving national subsidies from using foreign AI chips. Chip stocks SMIC (00981.HK) and HUA HONG SEMI (01347.HK) escalated 7.3% and 9.1%. For other techs, BABA-W (09988.HK) and JD-SW (09618.HK) mounted 4.1% and 3.3%, while TENCENT (00700.HK), MEITUAN-W (03690.HK), BILIBILI-W (09626.HK), BIDU-SW (09888.HK) and KUAISHOU-W (01024.HK) leaped 1.9-2.4%. XIAOMI-W (01810.HK) and NTES-S (09999.HK) picked up 0.3% and 1.3%. Handset-related stocks AAC TECH (02018.HK) and Q TECH (01478.HK) leaped 4% and 3.4%, while LENS (06613.HK) swelled 6.4%. Commodities stocks continued to prosper, with CHALCO (02600.HK) and CHINAHONGQIAO (01378.HK) surging 11.2% and 9.9%. CMOC (03993.HK) and MMG (01208.HK) advanced 5.9% and 3.7%. Gold miners LINGBAO GOLD (03330.HK) and ZIJIN MINING (02899.HK) ballooned 6.2% and 4.3%, while ZIJIN GOLD INTL (02259.HK) rallied 8.7%. The MSCI China Index announced adjustments, effective after market close on 24 November, adding companies including XTALPI (02228.HK) and ZIJIN GOLD INTL. XTALPI shot up 8%.
