The Chinese government has promulgated guidelines mandating that newly constructed data centers receiving state subsidies must use China-made AI chips, Reuters reported, citing sources.

Chinese regulators have recently instructed data centers with less than 30% construction progress to remove or cancel orders for foreign chips. Data centers with more than 30% progress will also be individually reviewed to ensure compliance with the guidelines, sources divulged.

It is unclear whether the guidelines are nationwide or limited to certain provinces, and the report did not specify which department issued the guidelines.

After the US-China summit, US President Donald Trump had stated in a media interview that the US would allow discussions between China and NVIDIA (NVDA.US) regarding chips, but not involving the most advanced ones.
