Due to political tensions, intense market competition and slowing economic growth in China, only 41% of American companies are optimistic about their business prospects in China over the next 5 years, a decline of 6 ppts from last year, the lowest confidence level since the publication of the Annual China Business Report in 1999, according to a survey by the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai (AmCham Shanghai).

The survey targeted 254 member companies representing various industries, and was conducted shortly after US President Donald Trump announced the imposition of comprehensive reciprocal tariffs.
