US President Donald Trump stressed that his tariff policy is intended to boost domestic production of tanks and technology products rather than sneakers and T-shirts, foreign media reported. Trump agreed with remarks made by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on April 29. Bessent said that the US does not necessarily need a booming textile industry, which was then criticized by the National Council of Textile Organizations. Instead of looking to manufacture sneakers and T-shirts, the US wants to produce military equipment, build large-scale products, and develop AI in the computer sector, Trump added.
