Hong Kong's Chief Executive John Lee met with the media before the Executive Council meeting. With the Mainland's Labor Day golden week holiday coming to an end yesterday (5th), he revealed that about 1.1 million visitors came to Hong Kong during this five-day holiday, marking a YoY increase of 22%. Among them, the number of Mainland visitors grew by about 20%, while non-Mainland visitors increased by around 30%. On a single-day basis, May 2 saw the highest number of about 267,000 Mainland visitor arrivals, up around 40% YoY. On the same day, non-Mainland visitor arrivals also spiked by 44% YoY. Lee also mentioned that many visitors were drawn to various attractions and popular photo spots during this year's golden week holiday, boosting business for sectors such as dining, bars, and retail. Some bars in Lan Kwai Fong reported business growth of 40-50%, while merchants selling jewelry, cosmetics, and dried seafood also logged a 40% rise in sales, bringing confidence and economic benefits to Hong Kong.
