The U.S. Department of the Treasury issued a statement saying that the Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent urged Asian Development Bank (ADB) President Masato Kanda to take concrete steps to terminate loans to China. The statement also said that Bessent emphasized at the meeting the need for a "comprehensive energy strategy" and exchanged views with Kanda on the issue of civil nuclear energy financing. Bessent pressured Kanda to take concrete steps to provide a clear path for China to end its borrowing from the ADB and emphasized the value of the Bank's work on procurement practices based on best value.
