HK 3-runway System Commissioned Tdy; AAHK Says to Press ahead 'Airport City' in Full Swing

The Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) held a commissioning ceremony for its three-runway system this afternoon (28th). John Lee, Hong Kong Chief Executive, Fred Lam, Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) Chief Executive Officer, Xu Chengguang, Vice Minister of Ministry of Transport of China, and Liang Nan, Deputy Director of the Civil Aviation Administration of China, were present at the ceremony.

Fred Lam, Chairman of the AAHK, said in his speech that the HKIA will actively support the country's “Belt and Road Initiative” and further expand its aviation network, with a view to becoming one of the world's largest and most important aviation hubs, and an important springboard for the country's opening up to the world and upgrading of its international connections.

After the commissioning of the three-runway system, the AAHK will press ahead with the “Airport City” project, capitalizing on the strengths of the airport and Hong Kong as a whole, to develop the airport into a tourist destination with Hong Kong's international characteristics and a leading new landmark in Asia.
