Hong Kong stocks tossed in the morning session. The HSI dropped 15 points or 0.1% to 17,620 at midday. The HSCEI slid 6 points or 0.1% to 6,247. The HSTECH fell 31 points or 0.9% to 3,579. Total half-day turnover for the market amounted to $41.633 billion.

Tesla prospered overnight, while US-listed EV makers XPENG-W (09868.HK) and NIO-SW (09866.HK) jumped 2.4%. Berkshire Hathaway reduced its stake in BYD COMPANY (01211.HK) to less than 5%, and BYD COMPANY's share price waned 3.1% to $238.4.

Chinese banks elevated. ABC (01288.HK) and PSBC (01658.HK) climbed 2.6% and 2.7%, while CCB (00939.HK), ICBC (01398.HK), BANKCOMM (03328.HK) and CITIC BANK (00998.HK) gained 1.7-2.3%. Official media quoted a source close to the People's Bank of China (PBOC) as saying that the reduction or waiver of MLF pledges can ease the pressure of “asset shortage” in the bond market.

For the rest of financials, HSBC HOLDINGS (00005.HK) hiked 0.1%, while HKEX (00388.HK) ebbed 0.2%. AIA (01299.HK) picked up 1.2% to $54.45, while PING AN (02318.HK) shed 0.3% as it completed the issuance of US$3.5 billion convertible bonds.
