In response to a complaint by the European Steel Association (Eurofer), the European Commission opened an anti-dumping investigation into Chinese flat-rolled iron and steel products with tin coating. The investigation will last up to 14 months and could lead to the imposition of provisional tariffs within 7-8 months. According to the EU, one of the complaints alleged that Chinese producers benefit from distorted raw material prices, which accounted for 60-70% of production costs.

The China Chamber of Commerce to the EU has expressed concern about the impact of the findings on Chinese industry and future exports. China had earlier criticised the US and Europe for accusing China of naked protectionism by dumping products with excess capacity.
