BABA-SW (09988.HK) announced its results for 4FQ24 ended March this year. Net profit attributable to ordinary shareholders was RMB3.27 billion, crashing 86.1% YoY. Net profit cratered 95.8% YoY to RMB919 million. The group attributed this mainly to the net loss arising from mark-to-market changes in its investments in publicly traded companies, as compared to the net gain recorded in the same period last year. Basic earnings per share was RMB0.17 and earnings per ADS was RMB1.32.

BABA's non-GAAP net profit for the quarter was RMB24.418 billion, a YoY decrease of 10.8%, which was in line with the forecast range of the 8 brokers summarised by our reporters, which was RMB22 billion to RMB26.958 billion. The amount was also above the median forecast of RMB23.34 billion. Under non-GAAP accounting standards, diluted earnings per share were RMB1.27 and diluted earnings per ADS were RMB10.14.

BABA reported revenue of RMB221.874 billion in 4FQ, up 6.6% YoY, also in line with the forecast range of the 18 brokers summarised by our reporters, ranging from RMB218.266 billion to RMB222.368 billion, and slightly above the median forecast of RMB220.17 billion.

By business segment, Taobao Tmall Group's revenue grew by 4% to RMB93.216 billion. Cloud Intelligence Group's revenue elevated by 3% to RMB25.595 billion. Revenue from Alibaba International Digital Commerce Group (AIDC) hiked by 45% to RMB27.448 billion. Revenue from Cainiao lifted by 30% to RMB24.557 billion.

GMV of Taobao Tmall Group and AIDC both achieved double-digit YoY growth during the quarter. Group CEO Eddie Wu commented that the GMV growth has reflected the effectiveness of the group's strategies. He believed that BABA is getting back on the growth track, and is pleased to see the accelerated growth of customers and cloud computing revenues related to AI products. The group will remain focused on its strategic focus in the future.
