According to a Nikkei Asia report, Stella Li, CEO of BYD COMPANY (01211.HK)'s Americas branch, said at an event in California that the company, as a maker of electric vehicles, should not be prevented from doing business in the US, unlike TikTok and Huawei.

Li said geopolitics had a significant impact on BYD and the EV market as a whole, and believed it was unfair to automatically associate a Chinese company with the Chinese government, arguing that the company should be considered a global player.

She was quoted as saying that the company has no plans to sell in the US due to policy uncertainty and the doubts many consumers have about EVs, commenting that it's a confusing time.

Li added that mainland suppliers like BYD still want to be part of America's EV supply chain. Even though BYD overtook Tesla in the EV business last year, it is still a long-term battery supplier to its US rival.
