Edward Yau: Outbound Tourists' Subsidies Not Materialized; Rumor: Govt May Subsidize Air Tickets
Edward Yau, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, highlighted the tough situation faced by tourism in Hong Kong, with the industry data reporting around 30-40% downside in July-August and rapid slide in September-October.
Among the initiatives the government is set to offer to stabilize the industry and jobs, there is subsidy policy targeting tourists. No concrete plan has been implemented so far, yet further news will be announced as soon as possible, Yau promised.
As to rumor about the government granting air ticket subsidy of $120 and accommodation subsidy of $100 for each eligible person, Yau said he would not respond to market speculation.
