Cyril Han, CEO of Ant Group, a subsidiary of BABA-W (09988.HK), stated at the China Development Forum 2026 that AI applications should not only serve as productivity tools but also benefit humanity, Chinese media reported, citing his remarks.

To manifest shared prosperity in the AI era, the industry must jointly address four major challenges: the underlying computing power and energy consumption, security issues of models and data, assurance of AI benefitting humanity, and human development issues.

In the process of risk management, the most profound realization is that enterprises are the direct responsible entities for AI technology R&D, productization, and operation; safety and ethical principles must be "built-in", not "compensated later"; and safety responsibilities should not be relaxed in excuse of intense market competition, Han said.

AI applications should not only become productivity tools but also benefit humanity, Han opined. Facing the repercussion of the AI wave, he believed AI should not replace humans but should be used to amplify human creativity and initiative.
