The World Bank announced a commitment of over USD50 billion for an ambitious plan aimed at halving the population in Africa who do not have the access to electricity. The World Bank is the largest supporter of this initiative. The plan, named "Mission 300", aims to provide electricity to 300 million people by 2030. Since its official announcement at a conference in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, in January last year, the plan has already provided electricity to 44 million people.
