The global shortage of memory chips is threatening product launches and shoring up costs in the tech industry, Nikkei Asia reported.

Major personal computer manufacturers such as HP (HPQ.US), Dell (DELL.US), Acer, and Asus are considering purchasing Chinese-made memory chips for the first time.
