Brazil's Labor Ministry has closed three waste piles at Sigma Lithium's flagship mine in Minas Gerais, citing a serious and urgent risks to workers and the local community, Reuters quoted documents as saying. The order exacerbates the Company's efforts to restart operations at Brazil's largest lithium mine. The mine's annual production capacity of lithium concentrate is 270,000 metric tons, and it has been idle since October 2025. The Labor Ministry's statement noted that, despite the mine's shutdown, the waste piles remain a concern, as a collapse could bury nearby homes or spill into rivers.
