Since US President Donald Trump imposed a blockade on sanctioned vessels transporting Venezuelan oil in December 2025, the number of tankers traveling from Venezuela to China significantly decreased, according to Reuters.

This move was part of the US' pressure campaign against the then Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, which ultimately escalated into a US military invasion and his capture.
