Hong Kong Police provided the latest update on the Wang Fuk Court fire, reporting that internal searches of the seven buildings affected by the fire have been completed. According to the interim summary, three more bodies were found as of today (3rd) around 2 p.m., adding the death toll to 159, with victims aged between 1 and 97.

Police stated that 31 people are still missing. Besides the 159 deceased found, suspected human or animal remains have been discovered throughout the fire scene. Due to the difficulty in identification on-site, these will be further examined by forensic experts and the government laboratory, thus the death toll may be adjusted. The next step will be to search the building's perimeter, hoping to safely remove collapsed scaffolding, debris and ashes to verify if any bodies are trapped underneath.

Furthermore, police have arrested six people from the estate’s fire equipment contractor company, suspected of making false statements, reportedly claiming to the Fire Services Department that the fire alarm system would not be shut down during the maintenance construction.
