Japan, the US and Europe plan to crack down on the counterfeit goods issue, such as online cross-border trading of counterfeit designer brand goods, according to Kyodo News. The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) will take the lead in working with companies like Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN.US) and Rakuten Group to come up with guidelines on actions to be taken as soon as 2025 to prevent the sale of counterfeit goods by unscrupulous merchants. A working group set up by the OECD held discussions with e-commerce companies such as Amazon and Rakuten in the winter of 2022, and OECD member countries also carried out discussions on the issue at the government level since April 2024.
