Bloomberg, citing sources, reported that CHINA COMM CONS (01800.HK) +0.060 (+1.456%) Short selling $1.86M; Ratio 3.181% has secured a USD2.9 billion engineering, procurement and construction contract for the upgrade and expansion of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Kenya. Two years earlier, Kenya had cancelled a concession agreement with India’s Adani Group.This move further consolidates the leading position of Chinese enterprises in major infrastructure projects in Kenya. CHINA COMM CONS’s project portfolio in Kenya includes a new railway, a 60,000-seat stadium, a toll highway and a conference center.It is understood that part of the funding for the airport project will be supported by proceeds from privatization, which have been invested into a newly established national infrastructure fund.
