Mainland media reported that the world's largest 271,000-cubic-meter ultra-large LNG carrier officially commenced construction yesterday (9th) at Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding under China State Shipbuilding Corporation. The vessel has a total length of 344 meters and is equipped with the latest domestically developed membrane containment system. Key performance indicators, including cargo capacity, energy efficiency, environmental protection, and navigation safety, have achieved comprehensive upgrades. Compared with the mainstream 174,000-cubic-meter conventional LNG carriers currently in the market, the vessel's cargo capacity has increased by 57%, with overall performance ranking at the top of the industry.At present, China's share of the global LNG carrier market has exceeded 30%. Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding holds nearly 60 LNG carriers in its orderbook. Measured by total cargo capacity, its orders rank first globally, with production scheduled beyond 2030. (jl/da)
