The Japanese government will participate in the US government-led national project "Genesis Mission", which aims to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) to drive innovation in scientific research. The governments of Japan and the United States plan to invest a total of USD1 billion over the next five years in areas including joint AI development. Japan is expected to become the first country to join this US-led initiative. In early Jun, officials from Japans Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry will visit the US and jointly announce the initiative with officials from the US Department of Energy (DOE), which leads the project.The program seeks to integrate scientific databases managed by the US federal government and computing resources such as supercomputers at national laboratories to build a new artificial intelligence platform.
