The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Kuala Lumpur (HKETO Kuala Lumpur) yesterday (20th) participated in the MalaysiaHong Kong Industrial Partnership Forum held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The forum aimed to explore opportunities to strengthen industrial cooperation between Hong Kong and Malaysia. The forum featured a panel session titled "Building a Competitive Manufacturing Sector through Productivity, Technology and Industrial Linkages." The co-organisers of the forum, the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) and the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM), also signed a memorandum of understanding, marking an important milestone in promoting industrial cooperation between Hong Kong and Malaysia. Director-General of HKETO Kuala Lumpur, Tommy Fung, highlighted the complementarities between the two places and shared Hong Kong's advantages, as well as the latest developments that facilitate bilateral investment and innovation and technology cooperation to foster industrial partnerships. These include the Northern Metropolis, dedicated taskforce for Mainland enterprises going global, the "Economic and Trade One-Stop Portal," and the "AI+" initiative. Fung also noted that new industrialisation and smart manufacturing are emerging areas of mutual interest for Hong Kong and Malaysia, and encouraged industries in both places to strengthen collaboration. He said that by promoting industrial cooperation, technology applications and innovative business models can be leveraged to jointly create value. Malaysia's Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Liew Chin Tong, also pointed out that Hong Kong and Malaysia maintain close economic and trade ties, with significant potential for industrial cooperation to jointly address challenges arising from supply chain disruptions.
