The US Navy could escort tankers through the Strait of Hormuz if necessary, US President Donald Trump said. This followed a statement by Ebrahim Jabari, a senior advisor to the commander of Iran's Revolutionary Guard, who said the Strait of Hormuz has been closed and Iran will fire on any vessels attempting to pass through.

Trump announced that he has ordered the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) to provide political risk insurance and financial guarantees for maritime trade in the Gulf region, emphasizing that the US will ensure the free flow of global energy under any circumstances, and will provide military escort if necessary.

Trump also acknowledged that the current military actions against Iran may briefly elevate oil prices, but he believed that once the situation is resolved, oil prices will ebb back, potentially even lower than before.
