The sluggish real estate market in mainland China gave rise to reduced demand, causing last year's crude steel production to fall below one billion tons, notching a seven-year low, according to a Reuters report. However, steel exports climbed to a historic high.

As the world's largest steel producer, China produced a total of 960.81 million tons of crude steel last year, the lowest level since 2018, and a 4.4% decrease compared to 2024, the report cited data released by China's National Bureau of Statistics on Monday (19th) as saying.
