A news report said that ByteDance partnered with ZTE (00763.HK)  -0.160 (-0.656%)    Short selling $156.43M; Ratio 33.985%   to launch an AI assistant powered by its Doubao large model on its Nubia smartphone brand, Nomura released a research report saying.

The Nubia M153 engineering prototype is priced at RMB3,499. The AI assistant can be activated via voice or side button, acting as an AI agent to execute complex, multi-step tasks across applications, such as booking tickets.

ZTE spiked 13.9% during yesterday (1st)'s intraday trading session. The broker believed that, as an early partner, ZTE should be a key beneficiary of ByteDance's edge AI initiative, with this collaboration potentially boosting the Company's smartphone sales, the report added.

However, Nomura cautioned that ZTE's core telecom equipment business continues to face a capital expenditure downcycle in the Chinese market, while its rapidly growing AI server business may continue to dilute the company's overall gross margin in the near term.

Therefore, the broker kept rating at Neutral and a target price of $39.
