A spokesperson for the US Department of Commerce (DOC) said that the US government is not discussing acquiring equity stakes in quantum computing companies in exchange for federal funding, according to CNBC.

The statement clarified that the DOC is not currently in talks with quantum computing firms regarding equity stakes.

The Wall Street Journal previously quoted sources as saying that the Trump administration was negotiating with IonQ (IONQ.US)      , Rigetti (RGTI.US)      and D-Wave Quantum (QBTS.US)      for potential share purchases.

Yesterday (23rd), IonQ and Rigetti escalated 7.1% and 9.8%, while D-Wave spiked 13.8%. In after-hours trading, the three stocks leaped by 3.4%, 2.8% and 6.3%, respectively.
