The HKD waned, prompting the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) to purchase HKD equivalent to HKD3.925 billion during the New York trading session. Hong Kong bourse started lower, weighed down by individual stocks. The HSI dived 194 points or 0.8% to 24,982, the HSCEI dropped 61 points or 0.7% to 8,976, and the HSTECH lessened 31 points or 0.6% to 5,458.

Prosus reportedly plans to further reduce its stake in MEITUAN-W (03690.HK)  +0.800 (+0.661%)    Short selling $530.89M; Ratio 27.039%   , leading to a 3.1% slip in Meituan’s shares to HKD123.5 at the open. JD-SW (09618.HK)  +2.500 (+2.039%)    Short selling $76.84M; Ratio 10.639%   opened 0.9% lower at HKD125.7 after submitting a bid for European consumer electronics retailer Ceconomy. NEW ORIENTAL-S (09901.HK)  +0.060 (+0.166%)    Short selling $13.74M; Ratio 19.638%   sank 1.6% to HKD35.9.

Under the same series, WUXI BIO (02269.HK)  -1.300 (-4.111%)    Short selling $161.89M; Ratio 12.295%   shed 2.8%. Meanwhile, SINO BIOPHARM (01177.HK)  -0.260 (-3.467%)    Short selling $113.80M; Ratio 16.815%   jumped up 2% to HKD7.67, buoyed by a smooth licensing collaboration with Merck, with a USD300 million milestone payment expected soon.
