Global sales of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) in May rallied 24% YoY to 1.6 million units, market research firm Rho Motion reported.

Among which, sales in China rose over 24% YoY to 1.02 million units, marking the first time this year that monthly sales exceeded one million units.

In Europe, sales hiked 36% YoY to 330,000 units, while North American sales rose 7.5% YoY to 160,000 units. Sales in other countries climbed 38% YoY to 150,000 units.

Robust growth in China offset the slowdown in North America, the researcher noted, which also mentioned that BYD COMPANY (01211.HK)  -3.300 (-2.455%)    Short selling $2.81B; Ratio 42.512%   's exports to Mexico, Southeast Asia, and Uzbekistan dramatically boosted sales in these regions.
