Israel's Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a statement announcing that Israel has launched a preemptive strike against Iran and has entered a special state of emergency in response to possible Iranian retaliation with missiles and drones.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has released a statement, in which he said that Israel acted unilaterally against Iran without US support and warned Iran not to target US interests.

Rubio's statement also emphasized that the top US priority is to protect American forces in the region, and that Israel had informed the US of the operation as it was necessary for self-defense.

International oil prices soared high. New York oil futures leaped by USD5.54 or 8.1% to USD73.58 per barrel during electronic trading, while Brent oil futures also rose by USD5.41 or 7.8% to USD74.77 per barrel.
