Investors were eyeing the details of a potential US trade agreement. Driven by Nvidia (NVDA.US)      , the Nasdaq closed up 156 points or 0.8% at 19,398. The S&P 500 and DJIA were nearly flat at the opening, but the latter managed to trend upward, eventually closing 214 points or 0.5% higher at 42,519, while the former concluded the day with a modest gain of 34 points or 0.6% at 5,970.

Nvidia closed soaring nearly 3%, making it surpass Microsoft (MSFT.US)      as the company with the highest market cap for the first time since January this year. Its rally also pushed up other chip stocks further, with Broadcom (AVGO.US)      and Micron (MU.US)      surging over 3% and 4% respectively. Alphabet (GOOG.US)      , however, slipped 1.6% against the market, while Tesla (TSLA.US)      inched up 0.5%.
