The EU will restrict Chinese medical equipment manufacturers from obtaining EU public procurement contracts, and EU countries will vote on the proposal as early as Monday (2 June), Bloomberg quoted sources as saying. If the proposal gains support from member states, it will be the first action taken by the EU under the International Procurement Instrument (IPI).In April 2024, the EU launched an investigation into the procurement of medical devices from China, and confirmed in January 2025 that China discriminated against foreign companies. Pursuant to the IPI, the European Commission will be allowed to impose various restrictions on companies seeking to participate in procurement, ranging from score adjustments in bidding to an outright ban on signing procurement contracts.
